The Toronto studios of the internationally renowned dance artists of Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie, the Citadel is home to both CLC’s groundbreaking theatrical and community-based work, and to the YogaBeat, a CLC initiative which offers ‘pay what you can’ yoga classes specifically for new and returning residents of Regent Park as well as for Toronto’s dance and yoga communities.
In October 2012, The Studio Theatre at the Citadel was underwritten by a generous donation by the Delaney Family Foundation as part of Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie’s Brick By Brick fundraising campaign, through which the company has been able to turn an abandoned building in Regent Park into a dance centre containing a theatre, workspaces and a yoga studio.
The theatre is now named the Mimi Herrndorf Studio Theatre in memory of Anna-Marie (Mimi) Herrndorf, (mother of supporter Kiki Delaney), a passionate supporter of the arts in Canada.
Mission
To engage professionals and experts in the fields of dance to work alongside community leaders in Regent Park in providing a well-informed range of activities and programming, as well as to create aspace to engage a uniquely diverse demographic of youth, artists, and families through performances by master artists, community-based site-specific events, outreach activities and workshops, and ongoing classes.
